Totton’s public spaces are currently not used a great deal outside of our carnival and parades. Increasing our use of public space is a great way to bring the town together with a sense of joint identity and to increase wellbeing.

Initial ideas for Neighbourhood Plan for public spaces

  • Create a Totton Centre Action Team to coordinate beautification and cultural projects for the centre

  • Advertise the adoption of public realm spaces. Become a ‘friend’ to a park area, or take on organisation of a beautification project for the town centre.

  • Relax the fee for outdoor public space activities to encourage more activities to take place

  • Designate the civic green as a site for public events, as well as the parks

  • Work towards Totton in Bloom expanding across the entirety of the town, with designated areas in each residential area

  • Expand the list of Totton and Eling trees protected with a Tree Protection Order (TPO)
